Human cathelicidin peptide of 37 residues, released from the precursor hCAP18

LL-37 is the human cathelicidin peptide, named after its first two residues, both leucine, and its length of 37. Proteinase 3 releases it by cutting the C-terminal stretch off the precursor protein hCAP18, outside the cell. The chain is linear and strongly cationic, has no cysteine and ends in a free acid; its international non-proprietary name is ropocamptide. On pepoderma it is grouped with the other skin-research compounds of the skin and ageing topic, because the human studies in our product data looked at chronic skin ulcers. Those records cover the cleavage that frees the peptide from its precursor and three randomised trials of investigational LL-37 formulations: two in venous leg ulcers, one in diabetic foot ulcers.

No. hCAP18 is the 170-residue precursor protein, and LL-37 its released C-terminal fragment: residues 134–170, or 104–140 when counted from the mature protein. FALL-39 is a sibling fragment two residues longer. Their masses differ widely, so the MS identity on the COA tells them apart.
A free acid. The formula and molecular weight in the fact table refer to that form. The C-terminal amide would be about one dalton lighter and falls outside the mass window of our specification.
