Afamelanotide: a linear 13-residue analogue of α-MSH
Research topic: Pigmentation · group: Melanocortin peptides
Melanotan I is the older research name of afamelanotide, [Nle4, D-Phe7]-α-MSH — a linear peptide of thirteen residues in which norleucine stands at position 4 and D-phenylalanine at position 7. It is one of the two melanocortin peptides on our pigmentation research page, next to the shorter, cyclic Melanotan II. Afamelanotide is the active substance of an approved medicine given as an implant. The vials we supply hold the same molecule, but it is not a medicine: it is lyophilized research material, made and documented lot by lot. Our product data identify it through database and regulatory records rather than journal studies.
Same molecule, not a medicine
Afamelanotide, the same molecule, is the active substance of an approved medicine given as an implant. What we supply is research material in vials — the same molecule, but not a medicine.
The COA of every lot of Melanotan I reports:
Ask for the COA of the batch you are quoted; the batch number on it is the batch we ship.

Our product data identify Melanotan I through database and regulatory records — the PubChem record of afamelanotide and its approval as an implant — rather than journal studies, so no study is listed here.
What to put in your quote request
With these facts the first reply can carry the unit price per kit, shipping and lead time.
Melanotan I is linear and thirteen residues long; Melanotan II is cyclic and has seven. Their formulas, molecular weights and CAS numbers differ — compare the two fact tables.
No. Afamelanotide is approved only as a finished implant. We supply the same molecule as lyophilized powder in vials, as a research material — not as a medicine.
One kit is 10 vials of the same product at the same strength. Each vial holds the stated amount, for example 10 mg of lyophilized peptide; the few solutions are stated per vial in mg or ml. 1 kit per product and strength. One order can combine several products and strengths, each from 1 kit.
HPLC purity, MS identity, endotoxin and fill, on the COA of every lot of a stocked peptide. The COA carries the lot number, so you can match it to the vials you receive. Yes. Ask for the COA of the batch you are quoted; the batch number on that COA is the batch we ship.
In writing, per request. Prices are tiered by the number of kits of each peptide and strength; the quotation gives the unit price per kit, the shipping cost and the lead time. We reply within 24 hours.
Because listings describe different forms: a free peptide or a salt (acetate, TFA), a copper complex or its free peptide, one peptide or a two-peptide material — and some registries keep older numbers. Each product page says which form its values refer to; the COA of the lot is the reference.
